How it works
The Science Behind Better Mornings
Morning Mate is a food supplement designed to support normal recovery processes before the morning begins.
Summary
Morning Mate is a food supplement formulated to support normal recovery processes around social drinking. Its 26-ingredient formula combines nutrients and botanical compounds selected for roles in normal energy metabolism, antioxidant protection, electrolyte balance and evening routines. The product is taken before drinking and, when needed, again before bed because preparation begins before the next morning.
01Alcohol metabolism
How does the body metabolise alcohol?
The body processes alcohol through several pathways, with most metabolism taking place in the liver. Alcohol dehydrogenase, or ADH, converts ethanol into acetaldehyde. Aldehyde dehydrogenase, or ALDH, then converts acetaldehyde into acetate, which is further broken down into water and carbon dioxide. Source 7
Acetaldehyde is a toxic, short-lived by-product. Its role is important, but a hangover is not caused by one molecule alone. Dehydration, disrupted sleep, gastrointestinal irritation, inflammation and individual differences can all contribute to how someone feels the next day. Source 8
Genetic variation can affect ADH and ALDH activity. Some people therefore experience flushing and other effects after less alcohol than others. This difference is physiology, not willpower. Source 7
Morning Mate is a food supplement formulated to support normal body functions around this process. It does not accelerate alcohol clearance, prevent intoxication or make it safe to drive.
How your body clears alcohol
And the two points where Morning Mate helps support the process.
Alcohol is converted by ADH into toxic acetaldehyde. ALDH then converts acetaldehyde into harmless acetate, which leaves the body as water and carbon dioxide. Morning Mate uses red ginseng to support the first clearance step and DHM with L-Cysteine to support acetaldehyde clearance in the second step.

Morning Mate
DHM 600mg
Supports acetaldehyde clearance, while L-Cysteine 500mg helps bind what remains.
Acetaldehyde is substantially more toxic than alcohol itself.
It is the molecule associated with the headache, nausea and flush. Most of a hangover is not the alcohol; it is what your liver turns it into on the way out.
02Four connected processes
Which processes can shape the next morning?
PROCESS 1
Alcohol is metabolised into acetaldehyde
- Symptoms
- flushing, nausea, headache
- Explanation
ADH converts ethanol into acetaldehyde and ALDH converts it into acetate. Acetaldehyde is toxic, but its concentration and contribution vary between people. Morning Mate does not claim to speed this clearance. Source 7
PROCESS 2
Metabolism is linked with oxidative stress and inflammation
- Symptoms
- fatigue, general discomfort
- Explanation
Alcohol metabolism can contribute to oxidative stress and inflammatory responses. The formula includes nutrients with authorised roles in normal antioxidant protection, but product-specific hangover outcomes have not been established. Source 8
PROCESS 3
Fluid balance can change
- Symptoms
- thirst, fatigue, headache
- Explanation
Alcohol suppresses vasopressin and increases urination, which can contribute to mild dehydration. Water remains the first priority. Morning Mate supplies minerals but does not replace hydration. Source 8
PROCESS 4
Sleep can become fragmented
- Symptoms
- tiredness, restlessness, poor concentration
- Explanation
Alcohol may shorten the time it takes to fall asleep while fragmenting sleep later in the night. A food supplement cannot make alcohol-neutral sleep or guarantee better rest. Source 8
03Timing
Why is Morning Mate taken before drinking?
Two before drinking. Two before bed when needed.
The timing makes Morning Mate part of an evening routine, not a morning-after cure.
Alcohol absorption and metabolism begin during the drinking occasion. Morning Mate is therefore designed to be taken before drinking, so its nutrients are consumed as part of the evening routine rather than after symptoms appear.
Take 2 capsules before drinking. For a longer occasion, take 2 more before bed, up to 4 capsules per occasion. Follow the product label and do not exceed the stated serving.
This timing is a formulation choice. It is not evidence that Morning Mate prevents a hangover or changes the rate at which alcohol leaves the body. Research into hangover interventions is limited, and a systematic review rated the available efficacy evidence as very low quality. Source 9
04Formulation
What does DHM absorption research tell us?
Dose is only one part of a formulation.
DHM is a botanical compound used in Morning Mate at 600 mg per daily serving, standardised to 98 percent. Research into DHM includes laboratory and animal studies. Human evidence for hangover outcomes remains limited, so the formula does not present DHM as a proven treatment. Source 1 Source 9
Preclinical research reports low oral bioavailability and identifies transport and pH stability as possible factors. These findings help explain why ingredient form and formulation context matter, but they do not establish how much DHM from Morning Mate reaches the bloodstream in people. Source 2 Source 3
Why does Morning Mate include black pepper extract?
Black pepper extract supplies piperine, a compound studied in absorption research. Its inclusion is a formulation decision based on that research. Morning Mate does not claim that piperine produces a measured increase in DHM absorption or a hangover benefit in the finished product.
Morning Mate uses a standard HPMC vegetarian capsule. The full ingredient form, standardisation and amount are published on the ingredients page so the formula can be assessed without relying on a single headline number.
05Our standard
How does Morning Mate describe its evidence?
Every ingredient, dose and statement should be clear enough to examine. That means publishing the formula, distinguishing types of evidence and saying what the product cannot do.
Decision 1
We publish every amount
Morning Mate does not use a proprietary blend. The ingredients page lists all 26 ingredients, their forms and their amounts per daily serving.
Decision 2
We separate research from product outcomes
Research on an individual nutrient or botanical does not automatically prove that the finished formula changes hangover symptoms. Laboratory, animal and human evidence are described separately.
Decision 3
We use proportional nutrient claims
Where a vitamin or mineral has an authorised role in normal body function, the copy describes that role without turning it into a promise about alcohol recovery. Vitamin B6 is supplied at 10 mg per daily serving, below the adult upper level cited in the EFSA source. Source 5
Decision 4
We state the limits
Morning Mate does not stop intoxication, speed alcohol clearance, make driving safe or prevent a hangover. Drink responsibly, drink water and follow the product label.
06The routine
Where does Morning Mate fit in an evening routine?
Preparation begins before the next morning.
A social evening can sit alongside plans for work, family, travel or exercise the next day. Morning Mate is designed for adults who prefer to prepare before the evening is over.
Recovery is broader than one capsule.
Responsible drinking, water, food and sleep still matter.
Morning Mate adds a clearly labelled food supplement to that routine. Its nutrients and botanicals are selected to support normal body functions, not to cancel alcohol or guarantee how you will feel.
Great nights deserve thoughtful mornings. Enjoy the evening, know your limits and give tomorrow the same consideration.
Key takeaways
- Alcohol affects several physiological processes, including sleep, hydration and metabolism.
- Morning Mate contains 26 ingredients and 600 mg of DHM per daily serving.
- Research into DHM and alcohol-related mechanisms is still developing and includes preclinical evidence.
- Morning Mate supports normal body functions but does not prevent intoxication or a hangover.
Science questions
Is Morning Mate proven to prevent hangovers?
No. Morning Mate does not prevent hangovers, intoxication or the risks of alcohol.
Why is Morning Mate taken before drinking?
The timing is designed to make the nutrients available during the evening rather than presenting the product as a morning-after cure.
What kind of evidence supports DHM?
DHM has been studied in laboratory and animal research, with limited human evidence. Product-specific outcomes have not been established.
Does Morning Mate replace water or sleep?
No. Hydration, balanced nutrition, quality sleep and responsible drinking remain important.
